In a small village in Ashok Nagar district, Madhya Pradesh, education for girls was never a priority. Most girls were expected to marry after completing 12th grade or graduation. Yet, Mona Dangi, a farmer’s daughter from this very village, defied societal norms to achieve one of the most coveted administrative positions in the state—Deputy Collector—after securing Rank 12 in the MPPSC exam. Her journey is a story of resilience, hard work, and determination.
Early Life and Education
Mona completed her 12th grade at a government school in Mungawali and pursued a BSc from Maharani Laxmibai Girls College in Indore, followed by an MA in Political Science. She began preparing for the MPPSC exam from her first year of college itself.
Overcoming Economic Challenges
Born to a small-scale farmer, Mona is one of four siblings. Despite financial constraints, her family prioritized her education. To support her preparation and cover expenses, Mona took up tuition teaching, turning her struggle into a source of strength.
Initial MPPSC Success
Her perseverance paid off in MPPSC 2022, where she secured Rank 34 and was appointed Commercial Tax Inspector (CTI). However, she didn’t stop there and continued striving toward her dream of a higher administrative role.
Breaking Barriers in MPPSC 2023
In her second attempt, Mona achieved Rank 12 in MPPSC 2023, earning the post of Deputy Collector. Her achievement not only transformed her life but also challenged the mindset of those who undervalue girls’ education in her village. Post her success, she has actively encouraged local communities to educate girls and pursue higher ambitions.
Inspiration for Many
Mona’s journey from a small rural village, overcoming societal barriers and financial struggles, stands as a powerful inspiration for students—especially girls—dreaming of making it big despite adverse circumstances.
