EET 2025: Over 1,200 MBBS & BDS Seats Remain Vacant Even After 3 Counseling Rounds – Experts Explain Why

N

Despite three rounds of counseling, 1,232 seats in MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing courses across India remain vacant, according to the NEET UG 2025 Stray Vacancy Round Seat Matrix released by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).

The NEET UG 2025 exam was conducted in May, with results declared in June, and counseling beginning in July. Now, in November, the counseling process is still ongoing. Surprisingly, even after three rounds, over 1,200 seats in top medical courses remain unfilled, highlighting a critical trend in medical admissions.

MCC NEET 2025 Seat Vacancy Details

  • MBBS: 802 seats vacant
  • 389 in All India Quota
  • 334 in Deemed Universities
  • 38 in other Central Institutions
  • BDS: 372 seats vacant
  • BSc Nursing: 58 seats vacant

Why Are These Seats Remaining Vacant?

Experts have pointed out several reasons why even competitive NEET aspirants are leaving seats unclaimed:

  1. High Fees in Private & Deemed Colleges: Many institutions charge hefty tuition fees, which students or families cannot afford.
  2. Heavy Service Bond Penalties: Students must pay large fines if they leave a seat mid-course, discouraging enrollment.
  3. Long Duration of MBBS Programs: Completing an MBBS course takes 5 to 8 years, which deters some aspirants.
  4. Overlapping Timelines: National and state counseling schedules often clash, causing confusion among students.
  5. Preference for Retaking NEET: Some students choose to skip lower-ranked or expensive colleges and plan to reappear for NEET the next year instead.

NEET UG 2025 Stray Vacancy Round results were released on 12 November 2025. Candidates can check the allotment on the MCC official website mcc.nic.in. After this round, a few more seats are expected to be filled.
