New Delhi: Students preparing for undergraduate admissions through CUET 2026 have reason to be optimistic as the Ministry of Education and National Testing Agency (NTA) plan significant changes to the exam and admission schedule this year. After the CUET 2025 result was delayed until 4th July, several universities, including Delhi University, faced thousands of vacant seats. This year, authorities aim to ensure faster results and smoother admission processes.
Admission to Begin from 15th June
Sources indicate that the Ministry of Education will soon meet with the NTA to finalise the CUET 2026 schedule. The target is to allow universities to start admission from 15th June, completing one or two rounds of admissions by early July. This will reduce the problem of empty seats caused when students take admission elsewhere due to delayed results.
Changes in Exam Schedule
- JEE Main: 1st Phase – 21-30 January, 2nd Phase – 2-9 April
- NEET: First week of May
- CUET 2026: Tentatively 7-10 days earlier than last year, conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode
In 2025, CUET UG saw participation of 10.71 lakh students with exams held between 13 May to 4 June.
Faster Results to Reduce Vacant Seats
With results expected by the first or second week of June, universities can complete admission rounds by early July, minimizing the issue of vacant seats. Delayed results previously forced students to seek admission elsewhere, creating difficulties in fee refunds and empty seats in top colleges.
Exam Calendar Coming Soon
NTA is preparing the 2026 exam calendar, which will be released within the next 10 days. Earlier, a tentative calendar was released in September 2023, but the final version was not issued. CUET and other national-level exams will be conducted in a timely manner to allow students to plan efficiently.
Students and parents are advised to keep a close watch on official NTA updates to avoid missing important deadlines.
