Every year, thousands of Indian students pursue MBBS abroad due to the limited number of medical seats in India and the high fees of private colleges. Russia is among the most popular destinations, with over 31,000 Indian students enrolled in various universities, most of them pursuing medical studies. One of the main reasons students choose Russia is the comparatively affordable tuition fees for MBBS programs.
However, choosing the right medical college in Russia is crucial. Graduating from an unrecognized institution can prevent students from practicing medicine in India. Many students remain confused about which universities are safe and NMC-approved. The simple answer is: always enroll in a college recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Why NMC Approval Matters
NMC approval is essential for Indian students because only graduates from recognized colleges are eligible to appear for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), a prerequisite for practicing medicine in India. Admission to these colleges also requires qualifying NEET. Students who complete MBBS from unapproved institutions cannot legally practice in India.
