Canada Opens 32,000 Census Jobs: Indian Students and Workers Can Earn Up to ₹2,000 Per Hour

Ottawa: The Canadian government has announced a major recruitment drive, offering a lucrative employment opportunity for international students and foreign workers, including Indians. Statistics Canada, the country’s national statistical agency, has opened applications for nearly 32,000 census-related jobs across the country, with hourly wages going up to CAD 31.32 (approximately ₹2,000).

This announcement comes as welcome news for Indian students studying in Canada, especially those holding a valid work permit or a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). PGWP allows international graduates to work in Canada for up to three years after completing their studies, making them eligible for these government-backed jobs.

Attractive Pay and Flexible Work Hours

According to Statistics Canada, selected candidates will earn between CAD 25.87 and CAD 31.32 per hour (around ₹1,700 to ₹2,000). Since the work involves multiple hours daily, applicants can expect a steady and substantial income during the census period.

Job Roles and Responsibilities

There are primarily two types of positions available:

  • Enumerators (Census Workers):
Enumerators will visit households to collect completed census questionnaires and ensure accurate data submission. They are required to work at least 20 hours per week, with most assignments scheduled during evenings and weekends, making it suitable for students.
  • Crew Leaders:
Crew Leaders will supervise teams of enumerators, coordinate field activities, and manage data collection in assigned areas. This is a full-time role, requiring 40 hours per week, including possible work on weekends and, in some cases, Sundays.

Who Can Apply

Anyone holding a valid Canadian work permit, including international students and PGWP holders, is eligible to apply. The recruitment process includes screening, reference checks, and an interview, and only shortlisted candidates will be selected.

How to Apply

Interested candidates can apply directly through the official Statistics Canada website. Applications are currently open, and early submission is advised due to the large number of applicants expected.

This large-scale hiring drive not only offers financial relief to international students but also provides valuable Canadian work experience, making it an excellent opportunity for Indians living and studying in Canada.
