Big Update for JEE Aspirants: Top College Changes B.Tech Admission Process, Official Notice Released

Bangalore: Major news for students appearing for JEE Mains and preparing for JEE Advanced 2026. Starting this year, one of India’s premier engineering institutions, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, will offer B.Tech admissions through JoSAA counseling. The official announcement has been made on the JEE Advanced website jeeadv.ac.in.

This means that students aiming for B.Tech admissions based on their JEE scores now have an additional option, as IISc joins the list of top engineering colleges participating in JoSAA 2026. The notification confirms that for the academic session 2026-27, admissions to B.Tech courses at IISc Bangalore will be based on JEE Advanced 2026 ranks and conducted through the centralized JoSAA counseling process.

What is JoSAA?
JoSAA stands for Joint Seat Allocation Authority. It is the body responsible for conducting counseling for undergraduate engineering courses such as B.E. and B.Tech in India. Only seats under the All India Quota are available through JoSAA. Eligible candidates must have appeared for JEE Mains or JEE Advanced and met the required cut-offs or secured a place in the JEE Advanced merit list.

How was B.Tech Admission at IISc Earlier?
Until 2025, IISc Bangalore conducted its B.Tech admissions independently. While the selection was still based on JEE Advanced scores, students had to fill out a separate application and follow a distinct admission process. From 2026 onwards, this entire process will be streamlined through JoSAA counseling, making it more convenient for candidates.

Undergraduate Courses at IISc
Currently, IISc offers the following undergraduate programs:

• B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing (admissions via JEE Advanced)
• B.S. in Research (admissions via IAT – IISER Admission Test)

It is important to note that the JEE Mains 2026 Session-1 has already been conducted, while Session-2 will take place in April. The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is tentatively scheduled for 17 May 2026, with registrations for Indian candidates starting on 23 April 2026 via jeeadv.ac.in.
