While engineering and IT have traditionally been considered top career choices in India, ongoing layoffs in major tech companies have raised concerns among job seekers. However, the Indeed Jobs Report 2026 highlights that hiring in other sectors is growing rapidly—up to three times in some roles—opening new opportunities for professionals across the country.
Rising Opportunities in New Sectors
According to the report, India’s best career options are no longer limited to coding, BE/B.Tech, or IT. Instead, sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, civil engineering, architecture, electrical design, and leadership roles are experiencing strong demand and stable growth. This shift is redefining long-term career success for Indian professionals.
High-Hiring and High-Salary Roles
- Healthcare: Surgeons, medical officers, and dermatologists top the list. Dermatology saw a 182% increase in job postings between 2024 and 2025, with an average monthly salary of ₹93,411. The rising middle-class willingness to spend on specialized care and the growth of private hospitals and clinics in metro and tier-2 cities are driving this demand.
- Civil and Construction: Quantity surveyors saw 198% growth in job postings, while realtors experienced a 191% increase. Senior civil engineers, architects, and electrical designers also saw triple-digit growth in hiring. For instance, a senior civil engineer earns around ₹42,526 per month, while a senior architect earns ₹48,457 per month.
- Finance: Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) witnessed a 171% rise in demand, with an average monthly salary of ₹82,528, as companies are willing to invest in top financial talent.
What About IT?
The report notes that demand in India’s IT sector will stabilize but not disappear. Python developers remain in demand, though year-on-year hiring growth is 0%, with an average monthly salary of ₹34,798. Other emerging roles include social media managers, interior designers, and travel consultants, providing alternative career pathways beyond traditional IT roles.
How the Report Was Compiled
The Indeed Best Jobs 2026 Report is based on Indian job posting data analyzed across five key metrics: average salary, job volume, salary growth from 2022 to 2025, job posting growth during the same period, and availability of remote work options. Only roles showing at least 20% salary transparency and 1,000+ postings in 2025 were included to ensure reliability.
Conclusion: For job seekers, the future is broadening beyond IT and engineering. Emerging sectors like healthcare, civil, architecture, and finance are offering stable growth, higher salaries, and more opportunities, making them attractive alternatives for long-term career planning.
