BEd vs Integrated BEd: How to Choose the Easier Path to Becoming a Teacher

Aspiring teachers in India often face a choice between a normal BEd and an Integrated BEd program. Understanding the difference between the two can make the path to becoming a teacher smoother and more time-efficient.

What is BEd?

BEd, or Bachelor of Education, is a professional teacher-training degree. Typically a 2-year program, it is pursued after graduation and recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

What is Integrated BEd?

Integrated BEd is a dual-degree program that combines a graduation degree with BEd. Usually 4 years long, it is offered as BA-BEd or BSc-BEd. The program includes teacher training along with academic subjects, allowing students to earn two degrees simultaneously.

Key Differences

| Feature | Normal BEd | Integrated BEd |
| Duration | 2 years after graduation | 4 years after 12th grade |
| Structure | Graduation + BEd separately | Graduation + BEd combined |
| Degrees Awarded | BEd only | Graduation degree + BEd |
| Time Efficiency | Longer overall if done separately | Saves 1 year |

Eligibility

  • Integrated BEd: 12th pass with required minimum marks. Admission may be based on entrance tests or merit.
  • Normal BEd: Graduate degree with minimum marks; admission through university or state-level criteria.

Why Integrated BEd Makes Teaching Easier

Since Integrated BEd combines graduation and BEd into 4 years, students save 1 year compared to completing a separate graduation (3 years) and BEd (2 years). This saved time can be used to prepare for TET/CTET exams, giving candidates a smoother route to becoming certified teachers.

Both degrees are recognized for government teaching jobs, so choosing the right path can save time and enhance preparation for competitive exams.
