₹27,564 for an IAS Dream: Fake UPSC Result Scam Exposes Aspirants to New Fraud Trap

Dehradun/Gurugram, January 5:
In a shocking incident that serves as a wake-up call for lakhs of UPSC aspirants across the country, a man was duped with a fake Civil Services selection result and was made to believe he had cleared the prestigious examination for just ₹27,564.

The fraud came to light when the victim, accompanied by his parents, reached the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, to report for training as a newly selected civil servant. Academy officials grew suspicious and, upon verification, discovered that the UPSC result presented was completely forged.

Victim Lured With Promise of IAS-IPS Selection

The victim, Pushpendra Singh, a resident of Bihar’s Saran district and currently employed at a private firm in Gurugram, claimed he had been approached by a group of individuals who promised to “manage” his UPSC examination and interview process.

According to preliminary police investigations, Pushpendra paid ₹13,000 in cash and ₹14,564 via UPI in two installments after being assured of selection into the Civil Services. Soon after, he received a fabricated UPSC result via WhatsApp, declaring his selection and instructing him to report at LBSNAA for training.

Believing the document to be genuine, Pushpendra travelled to Mussoorie with his parents, only for the scam to unravel at the academy gates.

Zero FIR Registered, Investigation Underway

Following the revelation, LBSNAA authorities immediately informed the local police and intelligence units. A Zero FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the case has been transferred to Gurugram Police for further investigation.

Officials confirmed that the UPSC does not communicate results through WhatsApp, phone calls, or private messages, nor does it demand any verification or processing fees from candidates.

Warning for UPSC Aspirants Nationwide

This incident highlights a growing trend of fraud targeting UPSC aspirants by exploiting their ambitions and lack of awareness. Authorities have urged candidates to rely only on official UPSC websites — upsc.gov.in and upsconline.nic.in — for examination-related information.

No individual, coaching institute, or intermediary can guarantee selection in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Messages such as “Your name is on the UPSC list,” “Pay verification fees,” or “Speaking from UPSC office” are clear indicators of fraud.

Aspirants encountering such demands are advised to immediately report the matter to the police or the Union Public Service Commission.

The dream of becoming an IAS officer cannot be bought — and any claim suggesting otherwise is a trap.
