Garhwal Villages Introduce Strict Wedding Rules: Limit on Gold Jewelry, Alcohol Ban, Heavy Fines for Violations
Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Villages in Garhwal, Uttarakhand, have implemented new regulations for weddings to curb extravagance and promote simplicity. The new rules limit women to wearing only three gold ornaments during marriage ceremonies and strictly prohibit alcohol at such events. Violations of these rules can result in fines up to ₹50,000–₹51,000.

The decision comes from local panchayats in the tribal areas of Chakrata and the Dunda block of Uttarkashi, aiming to make weddings more affordable and culturally grounded.
