Faridkot: Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has sparked renewed debate in the state regarding family planning and population policy. Speaking at a social program in Kotkapura, Sandhwan expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of the “one-child mentality” in Punjab, urging families to consider having two or three children instead of limiting themselves to just one.
A Warning Against the One-Child Mentality
Sandhwan emphasized that while the one-child approach was once widely adopted in Punjab, it is now creating long-term social and demographic challenges. “Children from single-child families often move abroad, leaving parents alone in old age. Limiting families to one child is not in the best interest of Punjab or Punjabis,” he said.
