New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh has secured the fourth position in India’s Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024, released by the NITI Aayog on Wednesday. The ranking evaluates states on key parameters such as export infrastructure, business ecosystem, policy and governance, and export performance.

Among the larger states, Maharashtra topped the list, followed by Tamil Nadu at second place and Gujarat in third. After Uttar Pradesh, the next positions went to Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Punjab. In the smaller states category, Uttarakhand emerged as the leader, with Jammu & Kashmir, Nagaland, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, and Tripura following.

NITI Aayog Insights
During the launch, BVR Subramanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, highlighted the importance of a robust export ecosystem, especially as India enters several Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Economic Partnership Agreements with other countries. He emphasized that states must develop infrastructures and policies that are globally competitive while fostering district-level competition to maximize opportunities.

Commission member Arvind Virmani added that states should focus on leveraging new business opportunities while ensuring the quality of products remains high to strengthen India’s global export standing.

The EPI 2024 thus serves as a roadmap for states to enhance export readiness, improve governance, and create a conducive environment for trade, aligning with India’s broader economic growth objectives.
