Trump’s India Play: Profitable Projects Amid Tariff Tensions

American President Donald Trump’s real estate empire is rapidly expanding in India, turning the country into one of its largest markets outside the United States. Partnering with prominent Indian developers, the Trump Organization is set to launch several new projects in the coming years, making India a key hub for its global business strategy.

Trump’s India Investment

Known for his unpredictable statements, Trump recently called India “a remarkable country” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi “a great friend.” The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic negotiations and trade discussions between the two countries. While tariff disputes have kept tensions high, Trump’s real estate investments in India tell a different story—one of growth and opportunity.

For the Trump Organization, India has become one of the largest overseas markets for branded real estate. Over the past year, the company has collaborated with several major developers in Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Gurugram, earning at least ₹175 crore from seven ongoing projects. According to The Indian Express, since the first Trump-branded project was announced in 2012, the brand’s presence in India is expected to grow nearly fourfold. With approximately 30 lakh sq. ft. already developed, the completed projects could eventually cover 1.1 crore sq. ft.

Revenue Potential

Tribeca Developers, Trump Organization’s key Indian partner, estimates that the upcoming developments could generate sales worth at least ₹15,000 crore (around $1.8 billion). This projection was shared during the launch of the company’s first commercial project in Pune earlier this year.

How Trump Operates in India

The Trump Organization uses a brand-licensing model in India. Rather than investing directly in construction, Trump licenses the brand name to Indian developers in exchange for fees. These developers finance, build, and sell luxury properties. This strategy allows the Trump brand to expand in India without financial risk.

Tribeca Developers, led by Kalpesh Mehta, has partnered with major Indian real estate firms such as Lodha Group, Panchsheel Realty, M3M Group, and Unimark. As of August 2025, four Trump Towers in Mumbai, Pune, Gurugram, and Kolkata were completed, covering around 35 lakh sq. ft. Six more projects are underway in Pune, Gurugram, Noida, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, potentially generating over ₹15,000 crore in revenue. Once completed, India will host ten Trump-branded projects, making it the largest overseas market for Trump Towers.

Upcoming Trump Projects in India

Following Trump’s 2024 election victory, six new India projects were announced, expanding into cities including Bengaluru, Noida, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Mumbai, and Pune. These developments will include residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.

  • Trump World Center, Pune: The first commercial Trump project in India, located in Koregaon Park, Pune, will span 16 lakh sq. ft. The project will feature two 27-story glass towers, a luxury shopping street, and India’s first Trump Club, offering a premium networking space. Expected revenue: ₹2,500 crore.
  • India’s First Trump-Branded Golf Course and Luxury Villas: While the exact location is yet to be disclosed, this will be India’s first project of its kind under the Trump brand.

All six new projects are being developed in partnership with local real estate firms and will follow a full-stack development model, managing everything from planning to sales.

A ₹1 Lakh Crore Vision for Telangana

On 8 December 2025, during the ‘Telangana Rising Global Summit,’ Eric Swider, director of the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), announced that Trump-affiliated companies plan to invest ₹1 lakh crore (approximately $12 billion) over the next decade in Telangana’s ‘Future City’ and surrounding areas. This represents one of the largest foreign real estate and technology commitments in India to date.

Balancing Tariffs and Growth

While President Trump has maintained a tough stance on tariffs with India, his real estate business tells a different story—one of rapid expansion and lucrative opportunities. India is fast emerging as a vital and profitable market for the Trump Organization.
