New Delhi: The Indian Railways has once again revised the rules regarding the preparation of train reservation charts. According to the latest update, the first reservation chart for a train will now be finalized at least 10 hours before departure from the originating station, an increase from the previous 8-hour timeline.
Why the Change?
For many passengers, securing a confirmed reservation has become a challenge. Often, travelers book tickets in the hope that the chart will confirm their seats, but frequently their tickets remain on the waiting list, forcing them to return home after carrying luggage to the station. Earlier, the chart was prepared 4 hours before departure, causing significant inconvenience. The Railway Board had adjusted this timing in July this year, and now it has been revised again to improve passenger convenience.
New Chart Preparation Timings
- For trains departing between 5:00 AM and 2:00 PM, the first reservation chart will now be prepared by 8:00 PM the previous evening (previously 9:00 PM).
- For trains departing between 2:00 PM and 5:00 AM the next day, the first chart will be finalized at least 10 hours before departure (previously 8 hours).
Railway officials have informed that the IT unit, CRIS, has been notified about these changes, which will be gradually implemented across the network.
Who Will Benefit?
This adjustment is particularly beneficial for passengers holding waiting list tickets, as they will now know the status of their reservations well in advance, saving them the trouble of arriving at the station only to find their tickets unconfirmed.
