Taiwan Plans Major Technology Park in India; Uttar Pradesh’s Yamuna Expressway Region Emerges as Front-Runner

New Delhi: Taiwan is preparing to make a significant investment in India’s technology and manufacturing ecosystem, with plans underway to establish a large, advanced technology park in the country. The proposed project could prove transformative for western Uttar Pradesh, with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region near Greater Noida emerging as the leading contender.

According to sources, the initiative is being driven by the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA), which represents some of Taiwan’s largest electronics and technology companies. TEEMA is exploring the development of technology hubs across four countries—India, the United States, Mexico and Poland—as part of a broader strategy to diversify and strengthen global supply chains.

Strategic Push Led by Foxconn Leadership

The plan is being spearheaded by Young Liu, Chairman of Foxconn—the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer—who also serves as Chairman of TEEMA. Industry insiders say the proposed Indian technology park is likely to be located in the YEIDA region, close to Foxconn’s proposed Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility.

The layout of the project has reportedly been designed to sit adjacent to the Foxconn campus, signalling a tightly integrated manufacturing and innovation ecosystem. The broader objective is to replicate Taiwan’s successful technology park model across strategically important global locations.

AI-Driven, ESG-Focused Manufacturing Hub

The proposed park is envisioned as an AI-integrated, ESG-focused global manufacturing network, aimed at boosting the competitiveness of Taiwanese companies while accelerating the global expansion of electronics supply chains. The initiative is being led by V. Lee, former India head of Foxconn, and has drawn support from Taiwan-based engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) major CTCI.

While TEEMA, Foxconn and CTCI have not officially commented on the project, the association had announced on November 21 its intention to create a global network of technology parks in response to the ongoing reconfiguration of global supply chains. As countries increasingly push for local manufacturing, Taiwanese firms are actively seeking overseas production bases and trans-shipment hubs to maintain export resilience and competitive advantage.

Why YEIDA Holds the Edge

The YEIDA region’s advantage lies in its strategic logistics connectivity. The Yamuna Expressway and the upcoming Jewar International Airport are expected to significantly ease the movement of goods and people—an essential requirement for any large-scale manufacturing hub.

Earlier this year, reports indicated that Foxconn was evaluating around 300 acres of land near the Yamuna Expressway for its first facility in northern India, close to where HCL-Foxconn has already acquired land for an OSAT unit. The clustering of semiconductor and electronics projects has further strengthened the region’s case.

A Potential Game-Changer for Uttar Pradesh

If finalised, the TEEMA technology park could mark a major milestone for Uttar Pradesh, positioning it as a key node in the global electronics and semiconductor supply chain. Beyond direct investment, the project is expected to generate high-skilled jobs, technology transfer and ancillary industrial growth, potentially reshaping the economic landscape of the region.

As India pushes to become a global manufacturing powerhouse, Taiwan’s proposed technology park could emerge as one of the most significant foreign-led industrial investments in recent years—one that may well open a new chapter in India–Taiwan industrial cooperation.
