The quick-commerce platform reported a tenfold increase in searches and premium gifting in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. Notably, nearly 50% of the orders were “orders for others”, highlighting the growing trend of sending gifts directly to loved ones.
Record-Breaking Chocolate Sales
Chocolate proved to be the most popular item, with the platform processing 1,042 chocolate orders per minute at 11:59 AM on February 14—the highest per-minute spike recorded by Instamart for Valentine’s Day. Searches for heart-shaped chocolates surged 500% compared to the previous week, reflecting strong demand for themed gifting products. Among cities, Bengaluru led the gifting volume, followed by Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
High-Value Orders Highlight Premium Demand
Several high-value orders stood out during the day. In Kolkata, the largest single order exceeded ₹25,000, including premium dark chocolates, milk variants, and curated gift packs. Similar large-value carts were observed in Hyderabad and Delhi, indicating growing demand for bulk and premium gifting on quick-commerce platforms.

Valentine’s Week also saw a significant surge in other categories:
- Flowers: Rose searches jumped 10x compared to the previous week.
- Soft Toys: Orders on Teddy Day increased 568% year-on-year, often bundled with chocolates and cakes.
- Beauty & Personal Care: High-value purchases included a ₹15,093 makeup order in Cuttack and a ₹10,845 bath and haircare order in Surat.
- Sexual Wellness: This category experienced more than threefold growth compared to last year, reflecting expanding acceptance of personal wellness products.
