New Delhi: Mukesh Kumar Sharma, famously known as the “Crorepati Chaat King,” has carved a unique niche for himself in Delhi’s culinary scene. Since 1989, he has been selling dahi bhallas from a simple folding table at Nehrū Place. Today, he arrives at his stall in a BMW, a testament to his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a millionaire.
A Simple Start with a Big Dream
Sharma started his venture selling dahi bhallas at just ₹2 per plate. Over the years, due to increasing demand and consistent quality, the price has risen to ₹40-50 per plate. His signature dish, made with 16 special ingredients and around 40 kilograms of fresh yogurt daily, has become a crowd favorite, attracting customers not only from Delhi but also from outside the city.
Stall by the Road, Not a Fancy Setup
Despite his success, Sharma prefers simplicity. He sets up a modest roadside stall each morning, bringing steel containers filled with fresh bhallas and chilled yogurt in his BMW. A large block of ice keeps the yogurt cold. Every plate is meticulously prepared by Sharma himself, with yogurt, spices, and garnishes added carefully, ensuring the quality that made him famous.
A Family Legacy in the Making
What started as a small business has now evolved into a three-generation family enterprise. Originally based in Kolkata, the business shifted to Delhi, where it thrived and became synonymous with quality street food.
Humility Amid Success
Despite his financial success and luxurious lifestyle, Sharma remains humble. He personally serves his customers, demonstrating that street food can be both respectable and highly profitable. His commitment to cleanliness, quality, and authentic taste has earned him loyal patrons and recognition on platforms like Zomato.
Mukesh Kumar Sharma’s journey reflects the true essence of India’s vibrant food culture and stands as an inspiring reminder that passion, perseverance, and attention to quality can turn even a small street food venture into a remarkable success story.
