Reliance Denies Russian Oil Tankers Heading to Its Refinery: Company Issues Clarification

New Delhi: Mukesh Ambani’s company, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has issued a statement rejecting reports claiming that Russian oil tankers are en route to its Jamnagar refinery. The company has refuted these reports, calling them completely false and stating that they are tarnishing its reputation. According to Reliance, no Russian oil deliveries have been made to its refinery in the last three weeks, and it does not expect any Russian crude oil deliveries in January.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Reliance Industries clarified that a Bloomberg report, which claimed three Russian oil-laden ships were heading towards Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery, was untrue. The company expressed disappointment that the report was published despite their denial.

Reliance’s Statement
Reliance posted on its social media platforms, “The claim made by Bloomberg that three ships carrying Russian oil are heading towards our Jamnagar refinery is a blatant falsehood. We have not received any Russian oil cargo at our refinery in the past three weeks, and we do not expect any Russian crude oil deliveries in January.”

The company added that the report had damaged its reputation. “We are deeply disappointed that those who claim to be champions of impartial journalism ignored our denial and published an inaccurate report, which has harmed our image,” Reliance said.

What Bloomberg Reported
Bloomberg’s report titled “Ships with Russian oil signal Reliance Plant as Destination” claimed that shipping data indicated the movement of Russian crude oil towards India’s western coast. According to Bloomberg, at least three tankers carrying Russian crude were signaling Reliance Industries Limited’s plant as their destination, with expectations to deliver the cargo at the Jamnagar complex in early January. The report mentioned that around 2.2 million barrels of Urals oil were aboard these ships, which were expected to deliver their cargo in the first week of January.

However, Reliance refuted these claims, emphasizing that the company had not purchased these cargoes, nor did they have any scheduled shipments of Russian crude oil for January.
