Passengers traveling across India faced severe inconvenience on Saturday as IndiGo Airlines continued to grapple with widespread cancellations and delays. Despite directives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the airline’s services showed little improvement. Over 400 flights were affected, causing long queues at check-in counters, crowded terminals, and mounting passenger frustration in major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Airport authorities noted that while conditions are slowly returning to normal, certain routes continue to face operational challenges.
Flight Disruptions Across Key Airports
- Mumbai: 109 flights canceled (51 arrivals, 58 departures), making it the most impacted airport.
- Delhi: 106 flights canceled (52 arrivals, 54 departures), with ongoing disruptions on several routes.
- Hyderabad: 69 flights canceled (26 arrivals, 43 departures), leading to long lines at terminal gates.
- Pune: 42 flights canceled (14 arrivals, 28 departures), significantly affecting domestic connectivity.
- Ahmedabad: 19 flights canceled between 12 am and 6 am, creating chaos at check-in and help desks.
- Thiruvananthapuram: 6 domestic flights canceled (3 arrivals, 3 departures) out of scheduled 11 arrivals and 11 departures.
- Goa: 12 flights canceled, affecting both arrivals and departures.
These cancellations disrupted travel plans for thousands of passengers, with several travelers scrambling to find alternative arrangements.
Government Response
The Ministry of Civil Aviation stated that the government is fully aware of the hardships faced by passengers and is in constant consultation with all stakeholders. Measures are being implemented to restore schedules and stabilize operations. This includes temporary relaxation of certain DGCA regulations announced on Friday to ease the crisis.
Airline officials have assured that efforts are underway to bring operations back to normal, but travelers are advised to stay updated on flight status before heading to airports.
