The government’s recently launched FASTag Annual Pass has rapidly gained popularity, with 36.3 lakh users adopting it in just three and a half months. Approximately 20,000 new users are signing up for the pass every day, and the initiative is significantly reducing disputes at toll plazas across national highways.
Currently, one in every five car users traveling on tolled national highways uses the FASTag Annual Pass. The pass, priced at ₹3,000, allows car owners to cross 200 toll plazas annually, effectively reducing the cost to just ₹15 per toll plaza. For frequent travelers between cities, it has become the most convenient and cost-effective option. Data from over 12 toll plazas shows that more than 40% of car users are paying tolls using the annual pass.
Bajvasan Toll Plaza Leads the Way
An official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) revealed that about 22% of total car toll payments nationwide are now made via the annual pass. The newly inaugurated Bajvasan Toll Plaza on Dwarka Expressway, Delhi, leads the usage chart, with over 50% of payments made through the pass. It is followed by Mundka Toll Plaza, Delhi (48.2%), and Zinzholi Toll Plaza, Sonipat, Haryana (over 47%). On average, around 13 lakh toll payments per day are processed via the FASTag Annual Pass.
Toll Fights Reduced, Operations Streamlined
Early feedback from toll operators and travelers indicates that the system has effectively eliminated conflicts and disputes at toll gates. The streamlined process has also reduced congestion at toll plazas, improving the overall efficiency of toll collection. A senior official from NHAI’s subsidiary IHMCL stated, “The increased adoption of the FASTag Annual Pass has made toll operations smoother and more efficient. We will soon assess the full impact of this scheme.”
With its growing adoption and convenience, the FASTag Annual Pass is proving to be a game-changer for Indian highway commuters.
