New Delhi: Vineeta Singh, former judge on Shark Tank India, is the co-founder and CEO of Sugar Cosmetics, a premium beauty brand that has captured the hearts of Indian women. Despite being offered a lucrative ₹1 crore job at the age of 23, Vineeta chose the uncertain path of entrepreneurship—and today, her company is valued at ₹4,000 crore.
Born in 1983 in Anand, Gujarat, Vineeta grew up in a highly educated household. Her mother held a PhD, while her father was a biophysicist at AIIMS. Excelling academically from an early age, she completed her schooling at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, followed by a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad.
At just 23, she received an offer from an investment bank with a salary of ₹1 crore—but Vineeta decided to follow her entrepreneurial dream and moved to Mumbai. Her journey, however, was far from smooth. She even took up jobs paying as little as ₹10,000 to sustain herself while building her businesses.
Her first venture, Quetzal, a background verification company, failed to take off. In 2012, she co-founded Fab Bag, a beauty subscription platform, which helped her understand the intricacies of India’s beauty market. Finally, in 2015, Vineeta, alongside her husband Kaushik Mukherjee, launched Sugar Cosmetics.
The company initially leveraged digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and its own app to reach customers. Products were sold through its website as well as e-commerce giants like Amazon, Flipkart, and Nykaa. Quickly, Sugar transitioned from a digital startup to retail, expanding to over 2,500 outlets in more than 130 cities across India. By 2024, the brand had presence in 550+ cities with over 45,000 stores, and also began exporting to countries like Russia, Nepal, and the UAE.
Vineeta Singh’s journey exemplifies perseverance and vision. From two failed startups to building a ₹4,000 crore empire, she has emerged as a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs. Today, her personal net worth stands at ₹300 crore.
