New Delhi, February 13:
At just 22 years old, Pavani Madugala of Andhra Pradesh made life-changing decisions that led to a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. After getting married, she gave up her MBA and went on to build a ₹1 crore business selling traditional halwa—without any capital, factory, or prior business setup—leveraging online sales to reach customers nationwide.
Humble Beginnings
Pavani hails from a remote village near Visakhapatnam, around 90 km from the city, where transport connectivity is limited and opportunities for women are scarce. She had completed her BSc in Agriculture and had secured an MBA seat at Symbiosis University, Pune, even paying the fees. However, a week before her program started, she got married and relocated to her husband’s village, which meant putting her formal education on hold.
Exploring Opportunities
Initially feeling left behind as her peers advanced in their careers, Pavani began creating content on Instagram—not as a business plan, but simply to try something new. She received encouragement from her husband and parents, though relatives criticized her, questioning why she needed to work or pursue online ventures. Pavani ignored the criticism and remained focused on her efforts.
A Viral Breakthrough
In September 2025, Pavani posted a simple video showcasing her traditional sugar-free, oil-free halwa made with jaggery, wheat extract, milk, and water. Unlike commercially available halwa, her recipe used no sugar, oil, or preservatives, which caught the attention of viewers online. The video went viral, and orders started pouring in. Initially, she declined, but the persistent demand encouraged her to test her product—just for a month.
From Trial to ₹1 Crore Enterprise
Within the first month, Pavani achieved a turnover of ₹18 lakh without any upfront capital or rented factory. Today, her venture, ‘Pavani Foods’, sells 80–100 kg of halwa daily and has grown into a ₹1 crore business, all from a small village kitchen.
Pavani Madugala’s journey exemplifies innovation, determination, and leveraging digital platforms, showing that entrepreneurship is possible even in remote areas and with minimal resources. Her story continues to inspire aspiring businesswomen across India.
