
New Delhi: Indian food habits continue to evolve, and the nation’s love for biryani remains unmatched. According to Swiggy’s annual food trends report, “How India Swiggy’d 2025,” Indians placed 9.3 crore biryani orders last year—averaging 194 orders per minute. Among these, chicken biryani was the clear favorite, accounting for 5.77 crore orders.
Top Food Trends of 2025
The report, marking its 10th edition, highlights popular dishes across breakfast, late-night meals, and festive specials. Following biryani, burgers (44.2 million orders) and pizza (40.1 million orders) ranked second and third, while vegetable dosa also saw significant popularity with 2.62 crore orders.
Evening Snacks and Combos
Between 3 PM and 7 PM, the peak snacking time, chicken burgers led with 6.3 million orders, followed by veg burgers at 4.2 million. Other favorites included chicken rolls, veg pizza, and chicken nuggets. Tea and samosa combos also remained popular, with 2.9 million cups of ginger tea and 3.42 million samosas ordered during evening snacks.
Sweet Tooth Dominates
Desserts saw strong demand, with white chocolate cake topping the list at 6.9 million orders. Chocolate cake and gulab jamun followed with 5.4 million and 4.5 million orders, respectively. Traditional Indian sweets like kaju barfi and besan laddoo were also widely ordered, alongside chocolate-flavored ice creams, with dark chocolate and chocolate sundae leading sales.
Global Flavors Gaining Popularity
Indians are also embracing international cuisine. Mexican dishes received 1.6 crore orders, Tibetan cuisine 1.2 crore, and Korean dishes 47 lakh. The flavor “Matcha” emerged as the most searched international ingredient of 2025.
Regional Food Trends on the Rise
Regional Indian cuisines saw a surge in demand. Orders for Himalayan cuisine increased ninefold, while Malabar, Rajasthani, Malvani, and other regional specialties almost doubled over the year.
Celebrations and High-Spending Customers
The report also reveals spending patterns during festive celebrations. In Hyderabad, a customer spent ₹47,106 on 65 boxes of dry fruit cookie gift packs during the festive season. In Mumbai, one individual placed 3,196 food orders in 2025—the highest in the country—averaging nearly nine orders per day.
Fastest Delivery Cities and Popular Items
Bengaluru led in “Bolt” delivery services, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Visakhapatnam, and Kochi emerged as fast-growing markets. Chocolate cake and gulab jamun topped dessert orders on Bolt. On Swiggy 99Store, Bengaluru again led in orders, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai, with chocolate pastries and cakes dominating sales. Popular dishes included chicken biryani, paneer pizza, corn garlic bread, and chicken fry. A Mumbai customer alone ordered 15 chicken biryanis, 10 chicken meatball kebabs, five plates each of falafel-e-khaas and paper paneer biryani, and 100 gulab jamuns.
Delivery Partners Make It Possible
This massive scale was made possible by delivery partners, who collectively traveled 1.24 billion kilometers in 2025—equivalent to 3.4 lakh trips from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Mohammed Raziq from Bengaluru led individual deliveries with 11,718 orders, while Poongodi from Chennai topped among female delivery partners with 8,169 deliveries.
