Bank Holidays in January 2026: Check RBI’s Complete Calendar

As January 2026 approaches, bank holidays across India have been officially announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). If you are planning to visit a bank next month, it is important to check the holiday calendar to avoid inconvenience.

Total Holidays in January
In January 2026, banks will remain closed for 16 days, although holidays will vary by state. Public and private sector banks will observe these holidays on occasions such as New Year’s Day, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, Bihu, Makar Sankranti, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti, and Republic Day. Some states may have banks closed for two or three consecutive days depending on local festivals. Additionally, banks will remain closed on every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

  • 1 January: New Year’s Day / Gaan-Nagai (observed in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata, Shillong)
  • 2 January: New Year Celebration / Mannam Jayanti (Aizawl, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram)
  • 3 January: Hazrat Ali’s Birthday (Kanpur, Lucknow)
  • 12 January: Swami Vivekananda Jayanti (Kolkata)
  • 14 January: Makar Sankranti / Magh Bihu (Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Itanagar)
  • 15 January: Uttarayan Punyakaal / Pongal / Maghi Sankranti (Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Vijayawada)
  • 16 January: Thiruvalluvar Day (Chennai)
  • 17 January: Uzhavar Thirunal (Chennai)
  • 23 January: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti / Saraswati Puja / Basant Panchami (Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata)
  • 26 January: Republic Day (All over India, including Mumbai)

Weekend Holidays
January 2026 will also include 6 weekend holidays—four Sundays and two Saturdays (second and fourth of the month).

Digital Banking Available
Despite bank closures, digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking, and internet banking will remain operational, allowing customers to continue transactions conveniently.
