Delhi-based app-based intercity bus service provider LeafyBus has announced plans to deploy over 100 electric intercity sleeper buses across the capital, aiming to make long-distance travel more comfortable and eco-friendly. For this, the company has partnered with Volvo Eicher Trucks and Buses.
Partnership with Volvo Eicher
The partnership will officially begin with 35 buses by 31 March 2026, after which the fleet will expand over the next 18 months to serve popular and busy routes including Delhi-Dehradun and Delhi-Lucknow. The buses will be provided on lease by Inetra EV Private Limited, supporting LeafyBus in scaling the electric sleeper fleet across the country.
Replacing Diesel with Electric
LeafyBus is India’s first operator of long-distance electric buses. Traditionally diesel-powered buses are being gradually replaced with electric intercity buses, offering quieter, cleaner, and more comfortable journeys, while reducing environmental impact.
Skyline Pro E 13.5m Electric Buses
The new fleet will consist of Skyline Pro E 13.5-meter electric intercity sleeper buses, featuring 36+D layout with upper and lower berths for passengers. Each bus runs on a 400 kWh LFP battery and a 235 kW permanent magnet motor, with advanced braking systems, front and rear air suspension, and energy-efficient systems to ensure safety and optimal range.
Focus on Comfort, Safety, and Reliability
According to Rohan Diwan, co-founder of LeafyBus, “Our partnership with Volvo Eicher will help us provide electric sleeper bus services on busy intercity routes where passengers seek comfort, affordability, and reliability. The Skyline Pro E buses are designed with better range, superior safety features, and a comfortable sleep layout for long-distance journeys.”
The first 35 buses will be operational on major electric vehicle routes by 31 March 2026, marking a significant step toward reducing diesel dependence while promoting sustainable travel options for passengers.
