Pune: Skoda Kylaq, the sub-4 meter compact SUV, has achieved a major milestone at the company’s Chakan plant in Maharashtra. Production of the Kylaq began in January last year, and within just one year, the plant has rolled out 50,000 units. This achievement has significantly strengthened Skoda Auto India’s market presence and marked a turning point for the company.
A Milestone for Skoda Auto India
The year 2025 was remarkable for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL), and the company has started 2026 on an equally strong note. The Kylaq has become the first Skoda model to reach the 50,000-unit production mark in India in just one year. The milestone was achieved at the Pune-based Chakan plant, which heavily utilizes local components in its manufacturing process.
Kylaq Drives Success for Skoda Auto Volkswagen India
The production of 50,000 Kylaq units highlights the company’s strong commitment to the Make in India initiative and underscores the growing capabilities of Indian engineering, product design, and manufacturing. The Kylaq contributed significantly to SAVWIPL’s impressive 36% annual growth in 2025. To achieve this milestone, the company increased production capacity, optimized costs, and strengthened partnerships with suppliers.
Increased Capacity and Local Partnerships
To ensure smooth production, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India increased its manufacturing capacity at the Chakan plant by 30%. The company also reinforced its collaboration with domestic suppliers to further boost the use of local components. These steps align with SAVWIPL’s larger efforts to support the Make in India agenda.
Priced between ₹7.59 lakh and ₹12.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kylaq comes with a powerful 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and offers striking design and features that appeal to modern SUV buyers.
Government Appreciation
Union Minister of Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy congratulated the group on this achievement, appreciating Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s continued commitment to the Made in India initiative. Meanwhile, MD & CEO Piyush Arora said, “The production of 50,000 Kylaq units reflects the deep trust customers have in this product. Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Kylaq’s success is proof that vehicles designed in India—whether for domestic or global markets—continue to earn customer love and confidence worldwide.”
