Hyundai’s all-new hydrogen fuel-cell electric SUV, NEXO, has achieved a major milestone in automotive safety. The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) awarded the NEXO a 5-star safety rating, underlining Hyundai’s commitment to passenger protection. The SUV is expected to launch in the Indian market soon, following its showcase at the India Mobility Expo.
Eco-Friendly and Safe
The NEXO is an eco-friendly vehicle, emitting only water vapor, making it a significant step toward a zero-emission future. Its 5-star Euro NCAP rating confirms that Hyundai places safety as a top priority, not just for occupants but for all road users.
Advanced Safety Features
The SUV comes equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and an advanced eCall system that automatically contacts emergency services in case of an accident. Previous Hyundai models, including IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and IONIQ 9, have also earned 5-star Euro NCAP ratings, emphasizing the brand’s focus on safety.
Adult and Child Protection
In Euro NCAP crash tests, NEXO excelled in adult occupant protection, scoring 90%, with the passenger compartment remaining intact during frontal collisions. The driver and passenger received excellent protection for knees, thighs, and other critical body parts. Side-impact collisions were equally well-handled, aided by a center airbag for front passengers. Rear-seat passengers were well-protected against whiplash.
The SUV also performed impressively in child occupant protection, scoring 85%, ensuring safety for 6- and 10-year-old child dummies in both frontal and side collisions.
With its combination of cutting-edge hydrogen technology and top-tier safety, Hyundai NEXO positions itself as a benchmark in eco-friendly, high-safety vehicles, setting new standards for the future of electric SUVs.
