Four Scooters See Sharp Sales Surge in India; Activa Leads as Buyers Rush to Showrooms

New Delhi:
The Indian two-wheeler market witnessed a strong shift towards scooters in November, with four major models recording significant year-on-year growth. Leading the surge was Honda Activa, which not only dominated the scooter segment but also emerged as the second best-selling two-wheeler overall, narrowly trailing the Hero Splendor motorcycle.

Industry sales data for November reveal that scooters are mounting serious competition against motorcycles, reflecting changing consumer preferences driven by convenience, fuel efficiency, and urban mobility needs.

Honda Activa Continues Its Reign

Honda Activa remained the undisputed leader in the scooter segment, with 262,689 units sold in November. This marks a 27% year-on-year growth, compared to 206,844 units sold in the same month last year. The strong demand indicates sustained consumer trust in Activa’s reliability and brand value, with showrooms reporting heavy footfall across major cities and towns.

TVS Jupiter Records Robust Growth

The TVS Jupiter secured the second position among scooters and ranked fourth overall in the top 10 two-wheelers list. The model registered sales of 124,782 units, reflecting a 25% annual growth over November last year, when 99,710 units were sold. The scooter continues to appeal to family buyers due to its comfort, mileage, and competitive pricing.

Suzuki Access Shows Consistent Demand

Suzuki’s popular Access 125 also delivered an impressive performance, with 67,477 units sold in November. This represents a nearly 25% increase from the 54,118 units sold during the same period last year. The Access remains one of the most preferred 125cc scooters in India, particularly in semi-urban and urban markets.

TVS iQube Leads the Electric Scooter Charge

The electric two-wheeler segment also saw notable growth, led by the TVS iQube, India’s best-selling electric scooter. In November, 38,191 units of the iQube were sold, marking a 49% year-on-year jump compared to 25,681 units in November last year. The surge highlights rising acceptance of electric scooters, supported by improved charging infrastructure and government incentives.

Scooter Segment Gaining Momentum

Of the top 10 best-selling two-wheelers in November, the list featured four scooters, five motorcycles, and one moped, underscoring the growing relevance of scooters in the Indian mobility landscape. Industry experts believe that ease of use, lower running costs, and increasing electrification will continue to push scooter sales upward in the coming months.
