FASTag Benefits: Beyond Toll Payments, Discover Its Smart Uses

Initially introduced to reduce long queues at toll plazas, FASTag has evolved into a multi-purpose digital tool for vehicle owners. While most people associate FASTag only with toll payments, it now offers several smart benefits that make travel and transactions more convenient.

How FASTag Works
FASTag is a sticker affixed to your car’s windshield and linked to your bank account. Using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, the tag is scanned as your vehicle approaches a toll gate, automatically deducting the toll from your account. This saves time, fuel, and unnecessary waiting at toll plazas.

Parking Payments Made Easy
Beyond tolls, FASTag can also be used for parking payments. Many malls, airports, and hospitals in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru now support FASTag-enabled parking. The system automatically deducts parking fees from your FASTag account, eliminating the need for cash or tickets and reducing wait times.

Fuel Payments at Petrol Pumps
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved the use of FASTag for fuel payments at petrol pumps. Vehicle owners can now pay for petrol or diesel directly through FASTag, without having to use a wallet or card.

EV Charging Payments
FASTag will also soon be accepted for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. After charging an EV, the fee will be automatically deducted from the FASTag account, making the process seamless for electric car owners.

Payments at Food Outlets and Services
MoRTH is working to expand FASTag payments to highway food outlets, dhabas, vehicle servicing, and maintenance facilities. Additionally, some cities are implementing FASTag for car entry charges, further reducing lines and easing traffic congestion.
