This will be an annular solar eclipse, visible in parts of South Africa, Antarctica, Mauritius, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Namibia, and the southern regions of South America, including Chile and Argentina. The eclipse will not be visible in India, and the associated Sootak period will therefore not apply locally.

According to the Panchang:

  • Eclipse Start: 3:26 PM IST
  • Maximum Eclipse: 5:42 PM IST
  • Eclipse End: 7:57 PM IST
  • Total Duration: 4 hours 32 minutes
  • Duration of Totality: 58 minutes

The Sootak period, observed 12 hours before the eclipse, will begin at 3:26 AM IST on 17th February.

Astrological Significance

In Vedic astrology, solar eclipses occur when the Sun is “eclipsed” by Rahu or Ketu. This Aquarius eclipse is considered inauspicious due to the alignment of the Sun with Rahu. Astrologers advise caution during this period, especially in performing religious or auspicious activities.

Do’s and Don’ts During the Eclipse

  1. Do not perform temple rituals or religious ceremonies. Close temple doors at home and focus on mental prayers instead.
  2. Avoid auspicious functions such as weddings, havans, or Mundan ceremonies.
  3. Do not eat during the eclipse. Food prepared beforehand can be safeguarded by placing tulsi leaves or darbha grass. Pregnant women, the sick, and elderly individuals may eat, but with tulsi added.
  4. Post-eclipse rituals: Take a bath, sprinkle Ganga water in the house, clean and reinstall idols, and perform puja afterward.
  5. Charity is recommended after the eclipse to mitigate any negative effects.

This annular solar eclipse serves as a reminder of celestial cycles and their astrological significance. Observing recommended precautions ensures personal and spiritual well-being during the event.
