Intern at UNDP in the USA: 6 Requirements You Must Fulfill and How to Apply

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a leading global agency, is offering students an opportunity to gain valuable international experience through internships in the USA. UNDP’s Washington Representative Office (WRO) serves as the primary contact point for the UNDP with the U.S. Congress, the State Department, USAID, the World Bank Group, and other international organizations, as well as the diplomatic community, media, and civil society in Washington.

This year, UNDP is hiring interns for two positions: General Intern and Communication & Outreach Intern. Selected candidates will work at the UNDP office in Washington, D.C., and get a chance to contribute to global development projects.

6 Key Requirements for UNDP Internship:

  1. Relevant Education: Applicants should be pursuing a Master’s level course in fields such as Economics, Public Administration, Business Administration, Communication, Environmental Studies, or related development areas.
  2. Commitment: Interns must work for a minimum of three months, dedicating 24 hours per week (three days), with a maximum duration of six months depending on the type of internship.
  3. Project Interest: Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to work on global development projects and a strong eagerness to learn, which can be shown through prior project experience.
  4. Teamwork and Cultural Sensitivity: Applicants should show an ability and enthusiasm to work on global issues and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.
  5. Values and Ethics: Respect for the UN Charter and the UNDP Statement of Purpose is essential.
  6. Language Skills: Proficiency in English (both spoken and written) is mandatory.

How to Apply:
Candidates need to submit a cover letter, CV, UNDP application form, and a reference letter. These documents should be emailed to undp.washington@undp.org, with Ebru.Kuran@undp.org copied in. The internship involves working on day-to-day projects in Washington, D.C., with the program scheduled to begin next year.
