Patna: Seven months after the shocking murder of Bhojpuri actress Amrita (Annapurna), the case appears to be moving toward a breakthrough. While the police have yet to identify the killer, crucial forensic findings and the ongoing extraction of data from the actress’s mobile phone may finally unravel the mystery.
Forensic Report Confirms Death by Strangulation
Amrita was found dead on 27 April 2025 in a flat located in the Jogsar police station area of Bhagalpur. Her viscera report, recently received by the police, has ruled out any possibility of poisoning. This confirms the earlier post-mortem report, which stated that the actress was strangled to death.
The police, seeking absolute clarity, had ordered a second post-mortem earlier. The findings again reaffirmed that Amrita’s death was a homicide, not suicide.
Family Claims Suicide, Reports Say Otherwise
Police have questioned Amrita’s husband and her parents. All family members maintained that she had taken her own life. However, the medical reports sharply contradict these claims, turning the case into a full-fledged murder investigation.
Police Review Case, Examine All Angles
On Monday, senior officers reviewed the case at Jogsar police station. Investigators are revisiting every detail — including the cloth from which the body was found hanging. The strength of the cloth is being tested to verify whether it could bear body weight long enough for a suicide, or whether it was staged to mislead the investigation.
Mobile Phone May Hold Key Evidence
The most significant development could come from Amrita’s mobile phone. Forensic experts are analysing:
- Her call records
- Chat history
- Deleted messages and files
- Possible tampering with the device
- Data recovery timelines
Police believe that once the complete digital data is retrieved, it may reveal who Amrita was in contact with before her death, what conversations took place, and whether any suspicious activity occurred.
Officials are confident that the phone’s data may provide the crucial link needed to crack the case.
