Patna/Ara/Begusarai: The Bihar Board Matriculation Examination 2026 began on Tuesday, but the very first day witnessed massive chaos and dramatic scenes across several examination centres in Patna, Ara, and Begusarai. In shocking visuals, students were seen climbing boundary walls, jumping over gates, and pleading for entry, after arriving late at the centres.
At many locations, the situation turned tense as candidates who missed the entry deadline created a ruckus outside the exam premises.
Students Scale 10-Foot Wall at Patna’s Miller School
In Patna, panic unfolded at Miller School examination centre, where several late-arriving students attempted to enter by scaling a nearly 10-foot-high boundary wall. However, despite their desperate efforts, police personnel deployed at the site detained them and refused to allow entry into the examination hall, citing strict instructions from the Bihar School Examination Board.
Similar scenes were witnessed at Ravindra Balika Vidyalaya in Rajendra Nagar, where students were seen pleading with authorities, but the gates remained closed.
Strict Timing Rules Lead to Protests
According to official instructions, the last entry time for the first shift was 9:00 AM, while the exam was scheduled from 9:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Students were allowed entry between 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM only, after which the gates were sealed.
Candidates arriving after the deadline demanded entry, leading to protests and heated arguments with security staff.
Ara: Parents Attempt to Break Gate, Police Use Force
In Ara (Bhojpur district), a late-arriving girl student created a commotion at the Government Girls Plus Two High School centre. Reports said that her parents and guardians even attempted to break the gate to force entry. Eventually, the student was reportedly helped inside by climbing the boundary wall.
The situation escalated until police arrived and used baton charge to disperse the crowd.
Begusarai: Candidates Climb Walls, Girls Seen Hanging on Gate
In Begusarai, similar disturbing scenes were recorded. At the S.K. Women’s College examination centre, three girl candidates reached about 15 minutes late, only to find the gate closed. Confused about the entry timing, they repeatedly requested officials to open the gate.
When permission was denied, the girls were seen climbing the boundary wall and hanging from the gate, while security personnel tried to push them back. Parents standing outside reportedly helped them enter by pushing them from behind.
Over 15 Lakh Students Appearing Across Bihar
The Bihar Board Matric Exam is being conducted across 1,699 centres in two shifts. A total of 15,12,687 candidates have registered for the examination, including 7,85,726 girl students.
In Patna district alone, around 71,022 candidates are appearing at 70 exam centres.
Authorities Warn of Strict Action
District education officials have issued strict warnings that any candidate attempting to force entry by climbing walls or breaking gates may face legal action and disqualification. Security arrangements have been strengthened with two-layer frisking, ensuring no prohibited items are carried inside the centres.
Questions Raised Over Exam Management
The chaotic scenes have once again raised serious questions about awareness, communication of entry timing, and crowd management at examination centres. Despite strict security measures aimed at ensuring a malpractice-free examination, the disorder on the first day highlighted the challenges authorities continue to face in managing large-scale public examinations in Bihar.
