Indore Engineer Arrested for Sending Obscene Letters After Marriage Proposal Was Rejected

The Indore Crime Branch has arrested an engineer for allegedly harassing a young woman and her family by sending obscene letters and nude photographs after his marriage proposal was rejected.

The accused has been identified as Ayush Agnihotri, a resident of the Annapurna area of Indore. Police said he had been continuously troubling the victim and her relatives for the past seven months, causing severe mental distress to the family.

According to investigators, Agnihotri had developed contact with the woman through a matrimonial website. Marriage talks were initiated, but the woman’s family later refused the proposal. Following the rejection, the accused allegedly began a campaign of harassment.

Police stated that the accused sent letters containing abusive and obscene language to the woman’s sister, neighbours, and relatives. In several instances, posters carrying nude photographs were also delivered to the family through postal mail.

The victim filed a complaint at Banganga Police Station in July 2025, after which the matter was taken up by the Crime Branch. Despite repeated attempts, the accused managed to evade arrest for months by visiting post offices while wearing a cap and face mask, making identification difficult.

Investigators revealed that Agnihotri had sent letters at least seven times from different locations across the city. With the assistance of the cyber and data analysis teams, police tracked the pattern of postal dispatches and finally arrested him from Vaishali Nagar.

The accused, who is professionally employed as an engineer, has been booked under relevant sections of the law. Following his arrest, the victim’s family expressed relief after months of continuous harassment.

Police officials said the investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused was involved in any similar incidents elsewhere.
