IND vs NZ 2nd T20I: Multiple Records Broken as Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav Shine

Raipur: The Indian cricket team delivered a spectacular performance in the second T20I against New Zealand, winning by 7 wickets and breaking multiple records in the process. Chasing a massive target of 209 runs, India achieved the total in just 15.2 overs at their home ground in Raipur, marking the 100th T20 match hosted by the team in India. Despite losing both openers cheaply, the middle-order duo of Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav turned the game on its head with explosive batting.

Second-Biggest Successful Chase
Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, India’s chase of 209 runs in 15.2 overs now stands as the second-largest successful T20I chase in Indian cricket history. The previous record was set in 2023 when India chased the same target against Australia.

Ishan Kishan Breaks Record
Ishan Kishan’s innings was a masterclass in power-hitting. He recorded the fastest T20I fifty for India against New Zealand, reaching the milestone in just 21 balls. His 76 runs off 32 deliveries laid the foundation for India’s dominant victory, featuring 11 fours and 4 sixes.

Other Records for Team India

  • This marks the sixth time the Indian men’s team has successfully chased a total above 200 in T20Is. India now ranks second globally in this category, behind Australia, who have achieved it seven times.
  • India also set a new record for winning a 200+ chase with the most balls remaining. Shivam Dubey’s winning runs came with 28 balls left, surpassing Pakistan’s previous record of 24 balls remaining against New Zealand.

Ashdeep Singh’s Costly Over
On the downside, India’s leading T20 wicket-taker Ashdeep Singh had a rough outing. He conceded 18 runs in the very first over of the match, setting an unwanted record for the most expensive first over by an Indian bowler in T20Is.

India’s commanding performance in Raipur not only secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match series but also showcased their formidable form ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
