Drunken Audi Driver Mows Down Crowd in Jaipur, 1 Dead and 18 Injured

In a horrifying incident that has shaken Jaipur, a man allegedly drove his Audi car at high speed while under the influence of alcohol, killing one person and injuring 18 others. The accused, identified as Dinesh Kumar Rinwa, is currently absconding, and police are conducting an extensive manhunt.

The accident took place on the night of Friday, January 9, near Kharbas Circle at around 9:30 PM. Dinesh, 28, a resident of Churu, who lives with his wife and their young daughter in Narayan Vihar, Jaipur, had earlier attended a private drinking party with friends in a Toyota Fortuner. Among his companions were Pappu, Mukesh (a police constable), and Mangilal, who accompanied him during the party.

Eyewitnesses reported that after the gathering, Dinesh parked the Fortuner at his home and took an Audi car out for a joyride. He drove recklessly at a speed of approximately 120 km/h, losing control near Kharbas Circle, where street vendors and diners were present. The speeding vehicle struck multiple people standing and sitting along the roadside, resulting in the death of Ramesh Bairwa, a helper at a roadside eatery from Bhilwara. Several others, including Paras Modi, Mridul Luhar, Rajendra Kharol, Rakesh Deepak, Hemraj, Meralal Meena, Ravi Jain, Prakash, Ashish Diwan, Deshraj, and Chaman Jain, sustained injuries, four of whom are in critical condition.

Police revealed that the Audi, bearing registration number DD 2G 5709, was previously owned by Shri Ramkrishna Charitable Trust, Silvassa, and had recently been purchased by Dinesh. Although the vehicle registration has been transferred to his name, the insurance had lapsed. Transport Inspector Kailash Sahay Meena confirmed that while the car’s tax was up to date, it was uninsured at the time of the accident.

Following the incident, police detained Pappu, who was in the Audi at the time, but Dinesh Kumar Rinwa and Mukesh, the police constable, remain at large. Dinesh is reportedly engaged in the solar plant business, and authorities are actively searching for him. Jaipur Police have launched a detailed investigation, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the fleeing accused.
