Patna Student Dies by Suicide in Jaipur, Jumps from 12th Floor of Under-Construction Building

Jaipur: A tragic incident has come to light from Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur, where a 19-year-old college student from Patna, Bihar, died by suicide after jumping from the 12th floor of an under-construction building in the Bagru area. Preliminary investigation suggests that the student was under severe mental stress after being caught cheating during a university examination.

The deceased has been identified as Priyanshu Raj, a resident of Patna, who had been studying Computer Science (First Year) at Manipal University, Jaipur, for the past six months. He was living in the university hostel.

Caught Cheating During Examination

According to police officials, Priyanshu had already failed in one subject during his first semester. On December 26, he appeared for a backlog examination scheduled from 3 pm to 6 pm. During the exam, he was allegedly caught using unfair means. Invigilators seized his answer sheet and cheat slips and issued him a fresh answer booklet.

Police said that following this incident, Priyanshu appeared visibly disturbed and remained under intense psychological pressure.

Events Leading Up to the Tragedy

On the day of the incident, Priyanshu reportedly hired a vehicle and travelled nearly five kilometers from his college to an under-construction 12-storey building near the Bagru Toll Plaza. On the way, he purchased a bottle of water and a toxic substance, indicating premeditation, police sources said.

At around 7:15 pm, he entered the construction site along with labourers. After reaching the 12th floor, he left his bag and mobile phone there and jumped from the building.

The loud sound of his fall initially led people at the site to believe that a construction worker had slipped. However, they were shocked to discover that a young student had lost his life.

Investigation Underway

Police reached the spot soon after being informed and initiated an investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and the victim’s family in Patna has been informed. Further inquiry is underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The heartbreaking case has once again raised serious concerns about academic pressure, mental health awareness, and the need for stronger student counseling systems in educational institutions.
